Abstract

Our data suggest that the estrogen-progestin regimen increases breast cancer risk beyond that associated with estrogen alone.

Case Details

Disease Location

Right breast with metastases to right and left supraclavicular fossae and lymph nodes (initial diagnosis); secondary carcinomas in lymph nodes (26 months post original diagnosis)

Personal Characteristics

46-year-old female (at time of original diagnosis); irregular periods; developed a cough at time of discovery of secondary carcinomas

Clinical Characteristics

Patient attended the hospital first in june 1936 with a lump in the right breast which she had had for two years. Pe revealed an ulcerated mass in te right breast measuring 8cm in the diameter surrounded by subcutneous nodules extending from the midline anteriorly near to the posterior axillary fold and a fixed mass of nodes in the right supraclavicular fossa and hard, mobile lymph-nodes were easily palpable in both axillae and in the left supraclavicular fossa as well. She complained of back pain. Secondary deposisits in the bones were noted on x-ray.

Remission Characteristics

16 months after diagnosis, the right breast showed puckering and scarring but no signs of any residual tumor.
