Disease Location
Bile duct
Personal Characteristics
30-year-old woman
Clinical Characteristics
Persistent epigastric discomfort and hiccups with mildly deranged liver function test, CT revealed a round-shaped mass in the perihilar bile duct, measuring 28 × 20 mm. The margin of the mass was strongly enhanced in an arterial phase, whereas the center of the mass was not enhanced, erc also demonstrated a round-shaped deficit in the perihilar bile duct. Eus showed a hypoechoic mass located on the lateral side of the bile duct wall with small anechoic components. Eus-guided fine needle aspiration biopsy revealed cell aggregates consisting of pleomorphic atypical cells with abundant cytoplasmic granules and anisonucleosis. We made a definitive diagnosis of well- differentiated neuroendocrine tumor of the bile duct. She underwent extrahepatic bile duct resection
Remission Characteristics
CT after 1 month revealed spontaneous regression of the mass (24 × 13 mm in size) in the perihilar bile duct which is also apparent on ercp
Treatment & Mechanisms
Proposed Remission Mechanisms
Central necrosis
Clinical Treatment
Extrahepatic bile duct resection
