Abstract

A 72-year-old male with a lung lesion was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma through percutaneous needle lung biopsy. The patient's lung tumor disappeared during follow-up 4 months later without any standard antitumor treatments. This is a rare case of spontaneous tumor remission.

Case Details

Disease Location

Lung

Personal Characteristics

72-year-old male, abnormal CEA and ca19-9 levels for 7 years, 3 year history of copd and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis

Clinical Characteristics

PET-CT scan revealed increased metabolic activity in a mixed ground glass density nodule in the right lower lobe. Conservative management with traditional chinese medicine (tcm) was chosen. Oral pirfenidone was started and later changed to nintedanib. CT-guided percutaneous lung lesion biopsy was performed revealing non-hodgkin's lymphoma derived from b cells.

Remission Characteristics

5 months after the biopsy a CT showed that the tumor had disappeared

Treatment & Mechanisms

Proposed Remission Mechanisms

Biopsy procedures disrupt the tumor microenvironment and may also induce sr

Clinical Treatment

Pirfenidone, nintedanib

Non-Clinical Treatment

Traditional chinese medicine
