Case Details

Disease Location

Heart (mitral valve)

Personal Characteristics

80-year-old man, history of chronic atrial fibrillation (treated with warfarin)

Clinical Characteristics

Presented with heart failure due to massive atrial functional mitral regurgitation. Mitraclip therapy for afmr was elected. The clip-delivery system was posteriorly bent and the clip unintentionally contacted the posterior left atrial wall. Transoesophageal echocardiography (toe) revealed a banding structure attached to the left atrium, suggesting iatrogenic la dissection (latd)

Remission Characteristics

Follow-up toe after 6 months showed spontaneous healing of the iatrogenic latd

Treatment & Mechanisms

Clinical Treatment

Mitral clipping. Warfarin
