64-year-old female

Clinical Characteristics

In 1948, had a right radical mastectomy for carcinoma of breast (not followed by radiotherapy) since 1961 had bronchitis each winter & chest x-rays showed no abnormality cough returned in october 1968 accompanied by pain in right chest chest x-ray showed prominent shadow at right hilum specimens of sputum (-) for malignant cells biopsy reported as oat cell carcinoma of bronchus area of rarefaction in head of left humerus due to secondary deposit x-ray of pelvis showed paget's disease

Remission Characteristics

Pain subsided after radiotherapy but steady weight loss occurred e.s.r. Climbed steadily, reaching 140 mm./1 hr in jan 1969 hemoglobin fell to 9.9 g./100 ml & nucleated rbcs appeared in peripheral blood sternal marrow exam on 20.1.69 showed sheets of malignant cells resembling cells in bronchial biopsy chest x-ray performed 3 mths after diagnosis showed disappearance of right hilar shadow texture of left humeral head returned to normal

Clinical Treatment

Palliative course of radiotherapy to left humeral head--> b/w 8.11.68 and 14.11.68 an applied dose of 2,500 rads, using 15x10 cm applicator given at 300 kv estimated dose due to scattered radiation received by primary tumor at right upper lobe orifice was 3-9 rads
