Personal Characteristics

56-year-old woman, no history of upper gi disease.

Clinical Characteristics

Sudden-onset severe epigastric pain, nausea, and vomiting 5 hours after eating vinegared mackerel. Endoscopy 8 hours after the onset of symptoms disclosed a submucosal tumor-like lesion approximately 5 cm in diameter in the fundus of the stomach. Biopsies disclosed edema and lymphocytic infiltration.

Remission Characteristics

The symptoms resolved rapidly, endoscopy 2 weeks later confirmed that the tumor-like lesion had disappeared
