Abstract

Retroperitoneal cystic tumours are rarely found, and of these, the most common lesion is a cystic lymphangioma. We present two postpartum patients with a cystic retroperitoneal tumour which showed spontaneous regression and a review of the literature.

Personal Characteristics

29 years old woman.

Clinical Characteristics

Abdominal pain and yellow vaginal secretion.she had given birth to a healthy child 13 days before. Fever 38.4°c. Abdominal pain. Normal bowel sounds and painful palpation of lower abdomen. Tumor found in the left iliac fossa near the sigmoid colon.

Remission Characteristics

Postoperatively, mr images showed a high signal intensity cystic lesion with septemberations in the lower pelvic region. An extra-ovarial ovarian tumour was suggested. After eight weeks of surgery, cyst was not seen anymore. The patient had no abdominal complaints and both the ca 125 and ca 19.9 levels were normalised to 10 and 20 e/ml, respectively.

Clinical Treatment

Laparoscopy performed. However, due unknown nature of the tumor, no attempatients to remove it were done, and a policy of wait-and-see- was carried out.
