Case Details

Disease Location

Liver

Personal Characteristics

52 years old woman with diabetes melitus and uremia. History of recent forearm amputation where an arterio-venous shunt had been created for hemodialysis

Clinical Characteristics

Intermittent low-grade fever after amputation of her forearm. Cyanosis and gangrene developed thereafter. Elevated wbc and high c-reactive protein levels. Abdominal CT showed a 5 cm multiloculated cystic lesion that was suggestive of an abscess. Normal liver function

Remission Characteristics

A 1 year earlier CT scan reported a giant hemangioma of 11 cm in diameter with features of peripheral nodular enhancement

Treatment & Mechanisms

Proposed Remission Mechanisms

Spontaneous regression of a giant hemangioma with hemorrhage and fibrosis was suggested.

Clinical Treatment

No therapeutic procedure for the hemangioma was performed. Patient didn't take oral contraceptives.
