Abstract

A case of superior oblique tendon sheath syndrome is reported in which the patient, a child of four, experienced a spontaneous cure.

Case Details

Personal Characteristics

The child, 4 years of age

Clinical Characteristics

A typical picture of a left inferior oblique paralysis

Remission Characteristics

The eyes were straight in all positions of gaze, there being no sign of any left inferior oblique paralysis remaining

Treatment & Mechanisms

Proposed Remission Mechanisms

Spontaneous recovery

Clinical Treatment

I advised doing a force-duction test under anesthesia and deciding at that time what operative procedure to carry out

Non-Clinical Treatment

The parents decided to do nothing about the condition

Additional Notes

Immediate operation is therefore not indicated and, in view of the uncertain operative results, should probably be deferred until these children are older
