Abstract

The case of a 50-year-old man with a supratentorial dural arteriovenous malformation (AVM) associated with intracerebral hemorrhage is reported. Angiographically confirmed spontaneous regression of the AVM occurred without any form of surgical intervention. A possible mechanism of spontaneous closure of the AVM is offered.

Case Details

Personal Characteristics

26-year-old man

Clinical Characteristics

Sudden attack of left hemiparesis

Remission Characteristics

Complete disappearance of the avm 3 months after the first study

Treatment & Mechanisms

Proposed Remission Mechanisms

Thrombosis of the avm associated with circulatory disturbance in and around the lesion due to repeated intracerebral bleeding from the avm

Clinical Treatment

Treated conservatively

Additional Notes

The main feeder was the pericallosal artery and the drainer joined the superior sagittal sinus. A small intracerebral hematoma was noted posterior to the AVM
