Case Details

Personal Characteristics

18-year-old female patient

Clinical Characteristics

Swelling and pain in the right parotid gland, redness of the overlying skin, high fever, difficulty in eating

Remission Characteristics

During the subsequent 10 years, the patient was free of attacks of jrp. A follow-up examination at the age of 28 years revealed no clinical symptoms of the disease, and salivation was normal.

Treatment & Mechanisms

Proposed Remission Mechanisms

This case illustrates that a damaged parotid gland is capable of regeneration following jrp.

Clinical Treatment

Treatment consisted of antibiotics only.

Additional Notes

The sialogram demonstrated completely normal gland anatomy, including the secretory components and ductal system. Clearance of the opaque medium was consistent with normal gland function.
