Abstract

A case of Burkitt’s lymphoma is reported. Laparotomy revealed ovarian tumours which were not removed. Without specific treatment, and only a small dose of oral penicillin, there was a spontaneous clinical and haematological remission in March 1970.

Personal Characteristics

83-year-old puerto rican woman, history of congestive heart failure secondary to hypertension and arteriosclerotic heart disease

Clinical Characteristics

Scalp lesion, neoplastic lymphomatous follicular infiltrates, enlarged spleen, lymphoma cells in blood and bone marrow, absence of peripheral lymphadenopathy and anemia

Remission Characteristics

Complete and spontaneous regression of scalp lesion in approximately 15 months

Digitalis, oral diuretic, and antihypertensive medication

Additional Notes

Patient had slightly elevated hemoglobin and hematocrit values consistent with a mild secondary polycythemia. Pulmonary function tests demonstrated abnormalities which were compatible with congestive heart failure and pulmonary fibrosis.
