Abstract

The authors report two cases of regression of lung metastases from renal cell cancer with cytological and histological proof. They present a complete review of the literature and analyse the theories proposed to explain this phenomenon.

Personal Characteristics

53-year-old man

Clinical Characteristics

Severe cough lasting several weeks, rounded mass in the upper left quadrant of the abdomen, bilateral densities in the lungs, large clear-cell carcinoma of the kidney, lung metastases

Remission Characteristics

The lung metastases cleared over a period of two years after nephrectomy

Additional Notes

The patient had undergone a prostatectomy several months before examination. An intravenous pyelogram done at that time revealed no lung abnormalities
