Clinical Characteristics

Left eye blurry vision (counting 2 fingers) at onset in april 2010, exam positive for hypopyon and vitreous opacity. Treated empirically with systemic antibiotics and steroids for possible endophthalmitis/uveitis witho improvement. Underwent vitrectomy and silicon oil tamponade in oct 2010 and referred to higher center in nov 2010. Visual acuity now hand motion, slit lamp showing corneal epithelial edema, fundoscopy: retinal hemorrhage in superior part of optic disc. Vitreous samples obtained - elevated IL-10, monoclonal igh rearrangement confirmed. Vitrectomy performed jan 2011 for sampling: iol confirmed on cytology. No other systemic involvement confirmed on imaging. Enucleation done - h/p did not show any cancer in the enucleated tissues. No mets/recurrence 8 months after enucleation.

Remission Characteristics

Vitrectomy followed by evidence of sr in enucleated tissues. No recurrence/mets confirmed 8 months after enucleation.

Treatment & Mechanisms

Proposed Remission Mechanisms

Via modulation of host immune system, hypothesize key role of CD8 tcells

Clinical Treatment

Initial systemic steroids and antibiotics empirically given at time of diagnosis oct 2010. Vitrectomy for sampling followed by enucleation in jan 2011.
