Abstract

A case is presented in which histologically verified, multiple metastatic nodules in the lungs disappeared spontaneously, without removal of the primary tumour in the kidney. The authors suggest that the spontaneous disappearance of pulmonary metastases may be due to an antibody reaction.

Case Details

Clinical Characteristics

Spontaneous regression

Remission Characteristics

Occurred in few instances and for reasons unknown

Treatment & Mechanisms

Proposed Remission Mechanisms

Nephrectomy may have promoted regression of distant metastases

Clinical Treatment

Nephrectomy

Additional Notes

Although it cannot be denied that nephrectomy may have promoted regression of distant metastases in some cases, this is an unproved relationship and, in any event, an extremely rare sequence.
